safe for play! keep away! (Ages 4-5)
You will need:
Pictures of objects or tools to be used only by grown-ups (e.g., lawn mower, knife, saw, matches, etc.) and pictures of children's toys or tools (e.g., crayons, finger paint, child's pail and shovel.) These can be cut from magazines.
Click here for a printable version of the smiling star and the international "not" symbol.
How to play:
Give each child a smiling star and an international "not" symbol (keep away! symbol). Have the children sit on the floor, then show them the pictures and illustrations one at a time in no particular order. If the picture shows an object that's safe for play, the children hold up the smiling star and say "safe for play!" If it is an object, or tool, to be used by only grown-ups, they raise the "keep away!" symbol and say (loudly) "keep away!"
